Flying Into Aspen - Colorado Ski Resort Destination Trip
Over the last week I have spent quite a time researching our winter ski vacation my wife and I will take right before the peak season (third week in December). The third week in December is usually the last of the “pre-season” specials and offers the best snow conditions most often, the only draw back of course is that your traveling back home near Christmas.
During my hunt for the perfect vacation for both my wife and I we have come to the conclusion that the best resort for us is Snowmass. Close to the swanky town of Aspen (but not as expensive), the most vertical in Colorado and plenty of ski in ski out accomidations.
At first my wife and I were thinking about the Lake Tahoe area, however with the recent snows in Colorado I think conditions will be better their. That only leaves one more part to the puzzle – how will we get to Aspen. Driving in from Denver would be fun if we had more time, however the drive is a bit long and with our return most likely on the 24th of December probably a bad idea.
We can fly into the town of Aspen, however most often ski package prices are a bit more if your flying into Aspen. Which brings me to the Eagle Airport, which is 70 miles away from Aspen – not too far at all and a bit cheaper.
We flew into the Eagle airport several years ago when I first introduced my wife to skiing (we stayed at Vail for about 4 days). The drive was not far at all if your heading to either Beaver Creek or Vail, about 45 minutes and their are numerous shuttle buses to make the transfer quite easy. So if your trying to figure out the best way to get to either Vail, Beaver Creek or the Aspen area try the Eagle Airport.
