Keystones Backcountry “Light” Terrain To Open This Season

Keystone known once as one of the best family ski resort destinations has taken on great lengths over the last several years to change that perception. This year the resort located in Dillon Colorado will open nearly 300 acres of expert only terrain that will require thrill seekers to hike near to the summit of Dercum Mountain to access the new Independence Bowl of Keystone. Chuck Tolton, director of ski mountain operations for the resort mentioned, the trend is for skiers and riders to seek in-bounds off-piste experiences.

With this new addition the Colorado resort has past the 3,000 acres mark and is now the largest ski are in the Summit County area. Having skied the Keystone area several times myself I was always left wanting more, more steeps – more deeps and more bumps. These mountain improvements sound great and is just what Keystone has needed, it has been about twenty years since I skied Keystone, I would love to check out the resort now. However with only really skiing a week or so each year I tend to hit the larger areas with more varied terrain.
