Snow Making Underway At Aspen / Snowmass
In the last 24 hours snow making has begun on Ajax and Snowmass mountains with close to two million gallons of water being used in less than a 48 hour period. The snowmaking crew already has close to a two foot base near the top of both mountains and with colder tempatures dropping in the last few days conditions were ideal.
Both resort areas are gearing up for the 2006 – 2007 ski and snowboard season which will kick off in less than three weeks. In other “Aspen Ski News” resort officials have sent out letters to residents informing them that the base village will be cleared of the construction materials and machines and will look more like a ski village as the opening draws near. The new Elk Camp Gondola is still on schedule according to this latest bit of info from the Snowmass area, the gondola is scheduled to open on December 16th (the day ski bum checks into the resort for eight nights of skiing bliss).
