The Ski Vacation That Was Not To Be

Having lived in Colorado for about five years I have had my share of excellent Rocky Mountain powder and have enjoyed skiing at Vail, Beaver Creek, Copper Mountain, Winter Park, Keystone and Steamboat springs. They are all great resorts that offer incredible snow, great long runs and plenty of smiling faces.

However since the early nineties I have lived in Minnesota where I learned to ski when I was a young boy. Since returning to Minnesota I have not been able to bring myself to ski the local areas, probably a smart move since I kind of got used to 3,000 vertical feet drops rather than 500 feet drops which are typical in the Minnesota Wisconsin area.

Several years ago I managed to talk my wife into a ski trip at Vail, it was so great to be back at Vail after a decade away. The skiing was fantastic and my wife did very well (she had never skied prior) and was making some nice turns on several cruisers on the our last final day.

Last year we had decided once again to book a vacation around my birthday (December) to a ski resort and we decided on Whistler in Canada. I was so excited to ski that 5200 vertical, 5200 vertical feet … that is some crazy skiing. However some personal things got in the way and we ended up cancelling the trip and lost out on about a grand ;-( Not fun at all …

Well this year we are going skiing, I am sure I will drive several travel agents crazy but I like to study the resorts and know what I am in for before we arrive. Since my wife is not a real big skier it is important that the town or village have some fun shops, nice restaurant and other entertainment besides skiing.

Right now were thinking either Heavenly near Lake Tahoe, the Canyons in Utah or possibly Whistler.

If you have skied any of these properties I would love to get your opinion, just leave a comment below ;-)
